Household appliances sold in Moldova will have a new type of energy label, with information about the product’s energy class and electricity consumption. The Cabinet approved the regulations on energy labelling of refrigerators, washing machines and dishwashers, light bulbs and electronic displays, based on the new law on the labelling of energy-related products, which was adopted last October, IPN reports.
The labels will rank products on a scale from A to G, with A being the most energy efficient. By accessing the QR code on the label, consumers will gain access to information about the product’s energy consumption.
“For the Republic of Moldova, these regulations are important because they will allow reducing energy consumption in the residential sector, which accounts for about half of the final energy consumption. In addition, the energy labels will allow to easier include household appliances in the EcoVoucher program we launched last year,” said Minister of Energy Victor Parlicov.
Consumers are encouraged to consult the energy label when purchasing light bulbs, refrigerators, washing machines, stoves and other household appliances so that they can assess their annual energy consumption and optimize electricity costs.
