Thirty-four people have died in road accidents in Moldova during the first three months of this year. The General Police Inspectorate specifies that 371 accidents occurred during this period, which is the lowest rate in the last decade, IPN reports.
The number of people who died in road accidents has also decreased. Last year, in the same period, 41 people lost their lives in accidents.
The highest number of fatalities was recorded in 2016, 2018, and 2020. In each of these years, 63 people died in road accidents during the first three months.
Excessive speed, failure to adjust speed to weather conditions, driver inattention, driving under the influence of alcohol, and failure to yield to pedestrians are the main causes of road accidents.
"Reducing the number of road accidents and their consequences is a priority for the Police," notes the General Police Inspectorate.
