A real estate company, investigated for tax evasion, will have to pay nearly 42 million lei into the state budget, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Causes, the amount consists of taxes the real estate company was supposed to pay to the state, late payment penalties, and fines.

Prosecutors established that the company's manager declared lower income for the period of 2012-2015 and failed to report income amounts for several years. During the criminal investigation, the manager admitted guilt and paid damages of over 4 million lei. However, later, he reversed his decision and withdrew his admission of guilt.

After an investigation into the company’s activities for the period of 2015-2017, prosecutors found that the state had been harmed by tax evasion amounting to 41.937.929 lei.

Prosecutors found that many employees at the real estate company were working without employment contracts and were paid under-the-table wages. After the criminal case was sent to court by POCOCSC, the suspects were found guilty by the judicial court, which decided that the amount of 41.937.929 lei should be paid to the state by the manager and the company.
