7.5-magnitude quake simulated in Chisinau

An earthquake measuring 7.5 degrees on the Richter scale will be modeled in Chisinau on March 25. Employees of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service will simulate the steps taken to deal with possible consequences. The Service's spokeswoman Dorina Sochirca has told Info-Prim Neo that the drills will start at 9am in a number of locations in the municipality of Chisinau. The sirens will wail for three minutes. According to the Service, among the locations affected by the quake will be an apartment building situated on Mircea cel Batran Blvd. in Ciocana district , the thermoelectric plant CET 1 in Rascani district, SA Stag Textil Industry in Centru district, and others. The drills are aimed at testing the capacities of the municipal, district and city authorities and of the civil protection organizations to deal with the consequences of natural disasters, including fires, leakages of toxic substances, outbreaks of bird flu etc. Such drills are organized in the municipality of Chisinau once in five years.
