About 80% of people developing lung cancer are smokers

The people can get lung cancer even if they have never smoked, but the number of sick people among smokers is much higher, doctors say. According to statistics, of the 7,000 cases of cancer reported in Moldova yearly, 1,200 are cases of lung cancer. Lung cancer is the main type of cancer that causes death among men. On the occasion of the World No Tobacco Day on May 31, the representative office of Hoffmann – La Roche in Moldova launches an educational program for people suffering from lung cancer and for those that look after them, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The aim of the program is to provide the necessary information so that the people acknowledge the necessity of appealing to the doctor on time,” said Ala Ciobanu, the director of the Hoffmann – La Roche office and the president of the Association of Pharmacists of Moldova. The cited source said that they printed materials informing about the options of treating lung cancer and provide useful advice as regards the behavior of the sick people and their relatives and close persons. The informative materials will be distributed free of charge. These include the brochures “Lung Cancer: Is Someone Dear in Danger?”, “If You Look after Someone Suffering from Lung Cancer, who Looks after You?”, “What is Non-Micro Cellular Lung Cancer?”, etc. The brochures provide accessible information about the traditional methods of treating lung cancer that are broadly used in Moldova too and about new methods,” the cited source said.
