Moldova’s further development as an independent state depends on every person apart, not only on the politicians, said Russian actress Svetlana Toma, who was born in Balti. In a meeting with her fans in Chisinau, the artist said that every Moldovan should contribute to strengthening the country’s independence, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Svetlana Toma believes that the Republic of Moldova, as the other countries that proclaimed their independence after the falling apart of the USSR, achieved results, but also experienced failures during the 20 years of independence. “Everything changes over time. Certainly Moldova now cannot boast of a film studio like“Moldova-Film” in the past. But any independence implies sacrifices, good periods and less good periods,” said the actress.
She also said that she loves the country where she was born. She found it the same as when she decided to move to Moscow. “It is the most beautiful place on earth and I feel myself at home every time I come here. Though I am part two cultures – Russian and Moldovan – I consider myself a Moldovan. Moldova is a special country that has produced many talents, including doctors, actors and diplomats. Culture does not have borders, while the relations between the ethnic groups do not depend on the political class, but on the inner cultural of each of us,” stated the artist.
Svetlana Toma was born in Balti. The roles that made her famous are Ioana in the film “Red Meadows” (1966), Rada in “Shatra” (“Gypsy camp”) (1975) and Veronica in “Luceafarul” (“Venus”) (1986). In April 2008, the actress became a Citizen of Honor of Balti municipality.
