Romanian writer, journalist and politician Adrian Paunescu became honorable member of the Moldovan Academy of Sciences, on the occasion of the Romanian Language Day, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Adrian Paunescu received the honor August 30 as a reward for continuously promoting cultural and historical values, authentic national traditions and the scientific truth regarding Romanian language and literature in Moldova. MAS president Gheorghe Duca dedicated a Laudatio to the Romanian senator.
“It’s not exaggerated to say writer Adrian Paunescu is a man who beat all records, an Olympic champion of the Romanian culture”, mentioned Gheorghe Duca. “His poetry tome Poems until today, edited in 1978, was released in 155.000 copies, beating the world record in poetry. His books amassed 1 million copies, a record for a Romanian living poet. His poetry tomes include 300.000 verses, more than Mahabharata (215.000), what determined the former president of the Romanian Academy Eugen Simion to label Paunescu “matchless in the Romanian and world culture”. Simion mentioned one more important thing: “During totalitarian years, the poet Paunescu managed to turn the people out, especially the youth, filling the stadiums and making them accept the new poetry and music”. Another achievement of Paunescu was the Poetry, Folk and Rock Circle Flacara, which made him popular in Moldova as well. Between 1973 and 1985, the “jeans generation” performed 1615 concerts in front of more than 6 millions of people”, stated in his Laudatio Gheorghe Duca.
Afterward, Paunescu answered with an Oratio gratitudinis, consecrated to the Romanian Language. “Let’s stay faithful to our origins, let’s fight for the well-being of the both sides of Prut River, for our reunion in Europe and in the space of Romanian spirituality, for the diversity and integrity of our national culture, for the unity of our people, for the dignity of being Romanians wherever we are and to continue dreaming and thinking in Romanian”, Paunescu ended his speech.
Besides, interim President Mihai Ghimpu awarded him The Order of the Republic, the highest honor in Moldova. Adrian Paunescu received it in token of gratitude for his contribution to the development of Romanian literature, to the enhancement of national conscientiousness and solidarity, for promoting the historical truth and national values. “We appreciate that you have always supported our citizens and maintained their courage and hopes they will live in a state of justice and democracy”, said Ghimpu.
Adrian Paunescu said this was a great joy, but besides personal satisfaction, the honor will oblige him to support Moldova and the entire Romanian nation.
The poet and writer also praised the reforms and efforts of the Alliance for European Integration and stressed only AEI would change things and bring a new life in Moldova.
“Only AEI’s government will lead to European integration. Watch over its unity, because any damage will be used against the whole of Moldova”, he said.
Adrian Paunescu was born on July 20, 1943, in Copaceni, Balti district, currently Singerei, in Moldova. His parents were teachers.
