The Agency for Intervention and Payments in Agriculture (AIPA) since August 10 until now has received 1,169 applications from farmers to be offered compensations for alleviating the consequences of natural disasters on the harvest of 2020. A number of 266 applications have been transmitted for paying 57 million lei in compensation based on them, IPN reports.
Prime Minister Ion Chicu, after the meeting of senior state officials, said all the farmers who until July 1, 2020 sustained losses representing over 60% of the harvest can file applications to get subsidies of 1,500 lei per hectare. The Government allocated a total of 300 million lei for paying subsidies.
The AIPA will accept applications by September 18.
In another development, the official said the draught means the farmers will face serious problems next year too, especially because they need to sow the wheat at the end of September. In this connection, he noted that the Government is preparing a program for ensuring the country’s food security next year and some of the actions will start to be taken this autumn, but he didn’t provide details.
