In the warm season, the airlines that operate in Moldova will provide a larger number of flights, the Civic Aviation Authority announced on March 19. There will be launched new flights to a number of countries and a new airline will enter the market, IPN reports.

According to the director of the Civic Aviation Authority Radu Bezniuc, flights to Tel Aviv will be launched in May following the signing of an intergovernmental agreement with Israel. “The flight to Tel Aviv will be operated as of May 6, two times a week. On June 4, it is expected that the operator ARKIA Israeli Airlines will enter the market and will provide another two flights with the same destination. The company Tandem Aero will also increase the number of flights to Tel Aviv. Overall, eight flights a week will be operated from summer,” stated Radu Bezniuc.

The number of flights to other cities will also increase. There will be 77 flights a week to Moscow, operated by six airlines. Thirty flights will be operated weekly to Bucharest. Of these, 26 will be operated by the Romanian company Tarom and four by Air Moldova. Turkish Airlines and Air Moldova will operate 21 flights a week to Istanbul.

“The air services market in Moldova continues to develop and competition on particular segments is rather stiff. This will imply a harsh struggle between airlines for each passenger apart,” added Radu Bezniuc.

The low-cost company WizzAir will provide flights from Chisinau to Athens two times a week. Lufthansa will introduce the Chisinau – Frankfurt flight. As a result, the number of flights to Frankfurt, which are also provided by Air Moldova, will double to 14.

The national operators will also provide new flights. Air Moldova will operate flights from Chisinau to Yekaterinburg, initially two times a week, by increasing the number to four flights from June. Fly One will launch the flight to Voronej.

Austrian Airlines will operate 11 flights a week to Vienna, while Air Moldova two flights. The number of flights to London will rise from 9 to 11 a week, operated by Air Moldova and WizzAir. There will be by nine weekly flights to Paris, operated by Air Moldova and Fly One, and to Verona, by eight weekly flights to Rome, Bologna and Dublin and up to 32 weekly flights to Antalya, operated by Air Moldova, Fly One, Turkish Airlines and AtlasJet. Flights to Kyiv will be most probably operated by MAU after July, two times a day, following the liberalization of the market based on the air transport services agreement signed with Ukraine.

In 2017, the national airlines carried 1.640,4 million passengers, an increase of 44.6% on 2016.
