Alexandr Petkov will retain his position as mayor of Balti after the Balti District Court rejected a request for suspension filed by the Northern Directorate of the National Inspectorate for Technical Supervision, IPN reports. At the same time, the court decided to terminate the administrative case brought against the mayor.
The Inspectorate had requested the temporary removal of the mayor from office, citing his refusal to sign the reconstruction permit for bridges on the city's bypass road. The project was estimated at 65 million lei and was scheduled to begin in the summer of 2024.
In a public statement, Mayor Petkov welcomed the court’s decision, calling it “a victory for the people of Balti.” He commented on the ruling with a firm tone, stating: “Horses don’t die when dogs bark”.
The decision is not final and may be appealed within 15 days to the Northern Court of Appeal through the Balti District Court.
