The performance of the police from now on will be assessed not according to the number of discovered offenses, but by the assessments of the people, Minister of the Interior Alexandru Jizdan said in the program “Reply” on Prime TV channel, IPN reports.

According to Jizdan, a poll carried out by the Ministry of the Interior shows that most of the respondents are satisfied with the professionalism of the Moldovan police, but are not contented with the relationship between the police and the people. “The people want the police to be more educated. We will be proud of our results when the people thank us for our work,” stated the minister.

Alexandru Jizdan noted that owing to the low salaries, the migration of staff is very great. “A beginning police officer has a salary of about 4,000 lei. Pay rises weren’t planned. The police force includes about 10,000 employees, but there are no social packages for police officers. I will do my best to ensure appropriate social packages,” he said.

Speaking about the crime situation, the minister assured that this is under control, saying the number of offenses even decreased. “The crimes in our country are mainly against property. The thefts prevail,” he stated.

Alexandru Jizdan also said that the police managed to solve a number of loud crimes committed recently such as the jewelry shop break-in and the explosion in the courtyard of the former governor of the National Bank of Moldova.
