There is political will in Moldova to prevent political interference in the legal system, Minister of Justice Alexandru Tanase said in the meeting of the Moldova-EU Cooperation Council, informing the European officials about the reforms initiated in the area of justice and human rights in order to meet the European standards, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communique from the Ministry of Justice.
The dialogue on the liberalization of the visa regime with the EU was opened at the meeting in Luxemburg on June 15. Speaking about the reforms in the legal system, Alexandru Tanase said that after the new democratic Government took power, no cases of political pressure on judges and courts in general were reported.
The minister said there were drafted bills to transform the legal system into a functional and independent system. The reformation of the Prosecutor's Office, the creation of the Supreme Council of Prosecutors and the implementation of the judicial information system that ensures the aleatory distribution of cases, publication of all court decisions and recording of the hearings will make the legal system in Moldova independent and fair, he stressed.
He also informed that the economic and military courts were liquidated and the advocacy and notary services were reformed. Moldova paid all the damages awarded by the European Court of Human Rights to plaintiffs.
The Moldovan delegation to Luxemburg included Prime Minister Vlad Filat, Minister of Justice Alexandru Tanase and Deputy Prime Ministers Iurie Leanca, Valeriu Lazar, and Victor Osipov.
