Almost 1,600 Ukrainian refugees employed in Moldova since outbreak of war

As many as 1,586 Ukrainian citizens have been employed in the Republic of Moldova since the beginning of the war in the neighboring country. According to official data of the National Employment Agency, since the declaring of the emergency situation in Moldova until November 29, 2024, 1,054 women and 532 men, citizens of Ukraine, have been hired. Most of them found a job in Chisinau (1,217), while the rest - in Balti (92) and ATU Gagauzia (60), IPN reports.

Ukrainian citizens who have taken refuge since the outbreak of the war filled vacancies in various fields, such as doctors, nurses, educators, salespeople, engineers, seamstresses, cooks, programmers.

Since the beginning of 2024, 157 employers have declared their willingness to hire Ukrainian citizens, offering a total of 1,706 vacancies. In the same period, almost 457 Ukrainian citizens registered with the local subdivisions of the National Employment Agency in order to benefit from employment support.

Employers who have Ukrainian citizens in subdivisions are obliged to notify the Agency within 5 days from the signing of the employment contract.

The purpose of the initiative to employ Ukrainian citizens is to ensure the Republic of Moldova fulfils its commitment to support the integration of refugees into professional activities and to contribute to the well-being of local communities.
