The National Agency for Energy Regulation has decided to adjust the certification conditions of the operator Vestmoldtransgaz, setting a new deadline for the unbundling of the transmission networks owned by Moldovagaz. If this separation does not take place by July 31 this year, the company risks losing its gas supply license, IPN reports.

The decision was adopted by ANRE's Board of Directors today and comes in the context of Moldova's commitments to the European Union, which provide for the elimination of dependence on Russian gas and the integration of the country into the European energy market.

According to the authorities, the document amends an earlier decision on the provisional certification of Vestmoldtransgaz, providing more flexibility in the application of European rules and a framework for action in case of non-compliance.

According to the new decision, if by the end of July 2025 Moldovagaz does not complete the unbundling procedure in accordance with the law, ANRE will withdraw the company's gas supply license and will designate another supplier to deliver gas at regulated prices. The procedures for selecting these suppliers are to start from the second quarter of the year.

ANRE's decision was taken after consultations with the Ministry of Energy, the Energy Community Secretariat and other officials in the field.

ANRE notes that the risks related to energy security were also analyzed, especially for consumers on the left bank of the Dniester, in the context of the unilateral cessation of gas supplies by Gazprom.

The Agency underlines that the measure is part of the national strategy to increase energy independence, reinforced by the agreement signed in February 2025 between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union, which provides for concrete steps towards integration into the EU energy market.
