The average gross monthly salary in 2023 was 12,354 lei, up by 17.3% in nominal value and by 3.4% in real terms compared to the previous year, the National Bureau of Statistics reported.
In the fourth quarter of 2023, the average gross monthly salary at businesses employing four people or more and at all public sector entities was 13,401 lei.
The highest average monthly earnings in the fourth quarter were recorded in the ITC sector - 31,367 lei, financial and insurance activities - 25,751 lei, and the utilities sector – 19,595 lei. The lowest salaries were paid in accommodation and catering activities – 8,163 lei; agriculture, forestry and fishing - 8843 lei; administrative service activities and support service activities – 9696 lei.
In the public sector, the average monthly salary in the fourth quarter was 11,618 lei.
