Balti will become a modern city convenient for the citizens and attractive for investors. This will enable to create jobs and, a result, to ensure the residents’ welfare, candidates for Balti mayoralty Arina Spataru, of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth”, and Alexandru Usatyi, of the Party of Socialists, stated in electoral debates on Radio Moldova station, IPN reports.

Arina Spataru said the priorities of the inhabitants of Balti are also her priorities. She aims to ensure decent living conditions. Based on the experience of other municipalities, her team will develop high-quality public services and modern infrastructure and will ensue comfortable conditions for all the residents, including those with disabilities. A priority is to build a social city based on a new development strategy for at least ten years. One of the pillars will be to implement the ‘smart city’ concept and introduce advanced technologies in the public services and solve the existing problems.

According to Arina Spataru, Balti should become a center of business and development, a catalyst of the Republic of Moldova and a pole for economic, social, cultural and educational growth that will accelerate the development pace of the northern region. She will create preconditions for a competitive economy that would ensure jobs for the inhabitants of the city and its suburbs. “Balti needs a female manager. We need a more serious sand strategic approach to what we intend to do during ten years. We will learn to gain from using waste so as to increase the local budget,” stated the candidate.

Alexandru Usatu noted the local administration should be a professional, transparent and responsible body. An audit should be performed at all the municipal enterprises. Also, a mechanism for fighting corruption should be implemented, which would include the dismissal of discredited functionaries and servants who have ties with the criminal world. The number of modern parking lots in municipality will be increased and the tariffs of public utilities will be adjusted.

The candidate noted he will provide support for developing small, medium-sized and large businesses as these are an important factor that contributes to economic growth and to a higher employment rate. As a result, the incomes of the residents will increase. A reliable partnership should be established between the authorities and the business community. He will also support the promotion of local producers on the national and foreign markets.

Seven candidates representing political parties and an independent candidate will compete in the Balti mayoral elections of May 20. Elena Gritsko is the only independent candidate for the mayoralty of Balti. The candidates who represent political parties are: Alexandru Usatyi, of the Party of Socialists; Arina Spataru, of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth”; Pavel Verejan, of the Shor Party; Nicolae Grigorishin, of “Our Party”; Sergiu Burlacu, of the National Unity Party; Simion Gutu, of the Party “Action and Solidarity”, and Oleg Topolnitski, of the Russian-Slavic Party of Moldova.
