The MPs of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists asked the Prosecutor General’s Office to investigate the way in which Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spînu and other government officials have handled the gas crisis starting with August 2021 so as to ascertain if the professional duties were exceeded or not, IPN reports.
According to MP Vasile Bolea, the Prosecutor General’s Office is also requested to determine the legality of Andrei Spînu’s mandate to hold talks with representatives of Gazprom and of the agreed gas supply conditions and purchase price of gas. “Last week, we heard that the gas price calculation formula was actually proposed by the Moldovan side, but in the regions there are countries that pay a much lower natural gas price. For example, Serbia pays US$270, Hungary – US$350, Armenia – US$165, Germany – US$220,” Vasile Bolea stated in a press briefing.
BCS also asked to establish the legality of the allocation of money from the state budget for purchasing gas from alternative sources. “The country had to buy gas from so-called alternative sources, the same Russian gas, for US$994 per 1,000 cubic meters and a sum of US$17 million was allocated from the state budget for the purpose. This is evident damage caused to the state budget and the public interest,” said the MP.
The MPs requested to determine if the sum of 1.7 billion lei was legally allocated from the state budget indirectly to Moldovagaz for this to clear the debts owed to Gazprom.
Andrei Spînu reacted to BCS MPs’ demands, saying those who signed the complaint against him should be investigated for what had happened in the energy sector during 30 years.
