Border Police to start work

The Border Police created by merging the Border Guard Service and the Migration and Asylum Bureau of the Ministry of the Interior will start work on July 1, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the regulations governing the work of the new service, which were approved by the Government.
Minister of the Interior Alexei Roibu said the Border Police Department will manage, coordinate and control the measures taken to implement the state policy on integrated state border management, authorize the crossing of the state border, and will combat crossborder crime and illegal migration. The Border Police will be empowered to examine travel documents.
The new service will have 3,543 employees, 335 of whom will work in the cleanup service. The institution of the Border Police forms part of the strategy for reforming the Ministry of the Interior.
