Audiovisual service providers will be required to include in their offer the television channels Moldova 1, TV Gagauzia (within the autonomy's range), TVR and TV 5, under a draft decision of the Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC), IPN reports.
The providers must also include the TV channels that are under Moldova's jurisdiction and have nationwide coverage, as well as over-the-air TV channels that operate within the range of the provider. In both cases the condition is that the content is offered for free to the provider.
The draft decision also requires providers to offer at least one TV channel broadcasting content for children, one sports channel and one music channel, all broadcasting in Romanian.
Contacted by IPN, BCC chairman Marian Pocaznoi said the decision aims to promote the “national linguistic patrimony” and those channels that are using state patrimony, in particular frequencies, regardless of their coverage, national, territorial or local.
The draft decision is now at the stage of public debates after being distributed for consideration to broadcasters and audiovisual service providers. The draft decision will be debated at the BCC's first meeting in January.
