Thirty-five civil society organizations from the Republic of Moldova have received grant certificates for implementing energy efficiency solutions in buildings that provide social services.

The initiative is part of a project funded by the European Union and co-funded by the Soros Foundation Moldova, aiming to transform social infrastructure into a more sustainable and comfortable environment for its beneficiaries, according to IPN.

The project has a total budget of €4.8 million, of which €4.2 million is allocated by the European Union, while €600,000 comes from the Soros Foundation Moldova.

"By investing in the capacity of civil society to act locally, we contribute to systemic changes with a national impact," said Daniela Vidaicu, Executive Director of the Soros Foundation Moldova, during the grant certificate award ceremony.

With the help of these funds, beneficiary organizations will modernize social institutions across the country, ranging from centers for children and the elderly to institutions supporting people with disabilities.

Buildings will be thermally insulated, heating systems will be upgraded, and windows and doors will be replaced. Additionally, photovoltaic systems and LED lighting will be installed, contributing to resource consumption optimization.

In the coming months, the beneficiary organizations will begin implementing these projects.

The project, “Local Partnerships for Energy Efficiency in Social Services,” will run for 36 months, starting in February 2024, with the long-term goal of improving the quality of life for social service beneficiaries across the country.
