A bus with the symbols of Free Europe will go through the country in the period between August 1 and 31 and will stop in a number of settlements were journalists of Radio Free Europe will produce features and will stage debates on topical issues. The project, entitled “Here is Free Europe”, aims to disseminate information and support democracy, to strengthen local communities and confidence in the possibility of changes in society, starting from each individual, through a radio-TV-multimedia caravan, IPN reports.
Director of the Radio Free Europe service for Moldova Oana Serafim said that by such events they aim to bring a part of culture and debates on issues related to democracy and everyday problems to Moldova’s settlements. “There are small and larger towns and there are villages. In each of the settlements we will visit, we will invite people who did something important in their life and who come from these settlements, other persons who have interesting projects elsewhere and want to promote them somehow and to inspire others to follow them to our debates so that these convince our listeners that they can change, if not the world, at least life in their community,” she stated.
Oana Serafim noted that besides the debates that will be held in the given settlements every evening, the organizers also intend to learn from the history of these settlements. “We want to record, film and keep the pictures, stories and memories about the recent history, the Soviet history and the post- and pre-Soviet history as well as about human destinies that intersected with these so as to see if we can identity “My Moldova” and to determine by what it is different,” she said.
The campaign partners are the Joint Integrated Local Development Program and the Association of Independent Press, while the media partners are the TV channels Moldova 1 and Canal Regional.
