A new competition for project proposals, financed by the National Environmental Fund 2025, has been launched. For this call, 125 million lei will be allocated to support projects in the field of environmental protection, initiated by mayors and civil society. Minister of Environment Sergiu Lazarencu told a news conference that the initiatives will focus on integrated water resources and waste management, IPN reports.
The projects in integrated water resources management focus on water protection, prevention of pollution of rivers, lakes and their rational management. For this area, there will be financed proposals that include the unclogging of riverbeds and lakes, creation of water protection areas, bank fortification works, reconstruction/fortification of flood control dams, technical examination of dams and reservoirs or ponds, said the minister.
Sergiu Lazarencu noted that, through the projects in the field of integrated waste management, it is proposed to improve the management of cleanup activities in localities, developing infrastructure and reducing the impact on the environment. In this area, mayors and civil society will be able to submit projects for the liquidation and recultivation of abandoned waste dumps, fencing of existing waste dumps, waste management equipment, such as machinery, special trucks, dumpsters, platforms for selective waste collection, information systems for waste management.
Also, there will be financed the construction of the first three voluntary waste collection centers. "At these centers, people will have the opportunity to voluntarily bring waste that cannot be collected through the usual collection system, such as old furniture, mattresses, textile waste, packaging and used objects made of glass or wood, used electrical and electronic equipment, tires. This waste, in turn, will be recycled or disposed of properly, thus contributing to reducing pollution and protecting the environment," said the minister.
According to the minister, the protection of existing forests, including their correct exploitation, is another funding priority. At the request of mayors, the working out of forest management will be financed by the National Environmental Fund. Forest management is an essential document that stipulates in detail the way of sustainable management and exploitation of forests, thus ensuring their proper regeneration and development".
Nicolae Arnăut, director of the National Office for the Implementation of Environmental Projects, said that, after the previous call, 108 multiannual projects were selected for financing with money from the National Environmental Fund, with a total value of 235 million lei. Most of the projects referred to integrated waste management.
