Head of Parliament Andrian Candu, who is the deputy chairman of the Democratic Party (PDM), said there are suspicions about the integrity of the secretary general of the Parliament’s staff Ion Paduraru, who was nominated for premiership. He noted that if President Nicolae Timofti spoke so much about the integrity of the potential candidate for Prime Minister, everyone expected that this candidate will meet the integrity criteria, IPN reports.

“His integrity is open to question. We expected that the nominated candidate will meet the integrity criteria. Regretfully, we ascertained that other games are being played and we are heading for early elections,” stated Andrian Candu.

The deputy chairman of the PDM admitted that after the head of state rejected the candidacy of Vlad Plahotniuc, the party’s administration decided to field another candidate that was discussed with the parliamentary majority. The PDM’s deputy head Pavel Filip was the new candidate. When the head of state signed the decree to nominate Ion Paduraru for premiership, the PDM’s leaders were on the way to the State Residence, but went back.

Anticorruption prosecutor Adriana Betisor confirmed that Ion Paduraru was mentioned in the self-denouncing statements made by mayor of Orhei Ilan Shor, who confessed that he gave bribe to former Prime Minister Vlad Filat for particular services. She refused yet to give more details.
