CCCEC: MAI is the most corrupt institution

The Ministry of the Interior is the most corrupt institution, according to the Center for Fighting Economic Crimes and Corruption: in the first four months of 2012 there have been 27 registered cases of corruption, compared to 13 in the same period last year, Info-Prim Neo reports.
CCCEC director Viorel Chetraru told reporters on May 18 that in the first four months of the year, the Center dealt with 531 crimes, which is 40% more than the same period of last year – 359 crimes.
Viorel Chetraru said that the Ministry of the Interior was the most affected by corruption, with 27 cases being registered. A similar rise in the same period was noticed for the Ministry of Education - 7 cases in 2011, 16 in 2012. In the institutions of the Ministry of Health, there have been 14 cases this year, only one mare than in 2011. Meanwhile, in the judiciary, the number of corruption cases doubled and reached 13.
Of all crimes registered by the CCCEC, 296 (56%) are of economic and financial nature, 176 (35%) are corruption related and 59 (11%) are from other categories. According to the CCCEC director, the sums of money involved in such crimes have increased as well. While previously they reached €10,000, today they have grown to €450,000 and the old €10,000 is now something ordinary for those asking bribes.
Viorel Chetraru told the press that among those put to justice, there is a former minister, several heads of divisions of ministries, a chief of a territorial office of the State Chancellery, a chief and a deputy chief of the Fiscal Inspectorate, a CCA member, 22 heads of educational institutions, one judge, 57 police officers, 20 education staff, 20 health professionals, 14 lawyers, 32 mayors, 38 directors of companies, etc.
