Journalists of Channel 5, whose transmission was recently stopped, say that they have always abided by the Code of Audiovisual Media Services, either it goes to the editor, producer, or reporters. The whole team respected the principles of fairness, equidistance, pluralism of opinions and many other standards.

In a press conference at IPN, producer Tatiana Țurcan said that no matter what topic was treated, the editorial office asked for the opinion of all the involved parties and always had at least two sources. “Moreover, on political topics, on justice, critical topics, scandal topics and those involving serious accusations – don’t you want to know what effort we make and how we treat these topics? We do it as in real investigations,” said the journalist.

According to her, any news broadcast by Channel 5 can be analyzed and it is clear that deontology is respected, even if officials often refuse to provide reactions and comments. “We listen to their reactions on other TV stations. We are obliged because the Broadcasting Code does not accept “unavailable for comment”. No matter how, by hook or by crook, you have to obtain that reaction and put it into the subject so that this is balanced. Have you ever seen someone in TV doing as we do?”

Tatiana Țurcan pointed out that these efforts were made while posts that eulogize the government dared to stop at one source. In her opinion, the rulers are angry with the posts that have the courage to ask unsuitable questions, including about public spending, funds granted by foreign partners.

Producer Svetlana Curmei said that the Council’s decision invoked suspicions about the existence of links with a criminal group. Namely three reasons were enumerated – migration of employees with their projects from other stations that were ceased earlier, the address and telephone number of the editorial office, which allegedly coincided with those of closed stations. “So, three reasons that are the worst crime detected at Channel 5. We submitted to the Council all the documents that the economic agent possesses, including financial documents. As we saw in the decision, the Council had no objection to these, but there were enumerated these three reasons,” stated Svetlana Curmei.
