A bread producer from Orhei has cheapened the bread by 0.3 lei. The company’s director Ion Brodetski has told IPN that the bread will now be sold for 3 lei. The price was reduced because the raw material got cheaper. Several months ago, a kilogram of wheat cost 4.20 lei, but now the wheat of the new harvest is sold for 2.35 lei.

The Orhei bread maker also produces knot-shaped bread and cakes, but their price wasn’t changed.

Contacted by IPN, director of the Chisinau bread-making company “Franzeluta” Victor Cojocaru said there are yet no preconditions for cheapening the bread. The company continues to work at a loss. For the price of bread to decrease, a kilogram of wheat should cost 2 lei.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the wheat harvest this year exceeded 1 million tonnes.
