The informatics school program should be reviewed so that it provides for the training of children in virtual security. According to the International Center “La Strada”, each third child in Moldova uses the Internet. Almost half of the children admit that they agree to meet persons with whom they get aquatinted over the Internet and only 35% of the children said they would inform their parents about this. Such discussions were held within the public debate “Virtual security of children in real time”, IPN reports.
“La Strada” president Daniela Misail-Nichitin said that an IT subject should include not only programming language and learning of algorithms or certain aspects, but also aspects that can make the child’s life safer. According to studies made by “La Strada”, 70% of the children attempt to form friendships through social networking sites. More than 40% admitted that they received indecent proposals from persons with whom they became familiar over the Internet.
Therefore, the children must be told about the dangers to which they are exposed when using the Internet and the school should also be involved in this, besides the parents. The children are credulous and friendships over the Internet can be established much faster, especially because ill-intentioned persons often use false profiles, said Daniela Misail-Nichitin.
Attending the event, many psychologists said it is very important for the parents to know with whom their children discuss. The parents must spend as much rime as possible with their chidden and analyze together with them the profiles of particular persons from social networking sites. The children must know that their parents will anytime support them
The debate “Virtual security of children in real time” ends the Cyber Security Month held in Moldova.
