A call center based in Chisinau, which provided services to a U.S. company, came under the scrutiny of law enforcement officers for tax avoidance. The scheme was supposedly implemented in 2021-2022, when the recently founded company provided dispatching services for forwarding and logistics activities to a U.S. company, including truck drivers. More precisely, the manager of the Moldovan company in the accounting documents indicated evidently distorted data, including on costs that weren’t based on real operations, and also concealed taxable objects, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS), the suspects significantly reduced the amount of income tax deducted from the salary, the mandatory state social insurance contribution and mandatory health insurance premium for the 2021-2022 fiscal years, cumulatively amounting to over 8,677,000 lei. It was also determined that the company paid wages under the table and the salaries were much higher than those that were officially declared to the tax authority.

As a result of searches carried out at the company’s office and at the home of its manager, accounting, tax and financial documents were detected and seized and will be subject to examination.

Also, based on an order issued by the criminal investigation officer of the State Tax Service and at the request of PCCOCS, the Ciocana Court of Chisinau City seized a BMW X3 car valued at over 600,000 lei whose beneficial owner is the investigated manager.
