Moldova’s Parliament adopted a statement on the territorial reintegration process in the context of the European integration process. By this statement, Chisinau calls on Tiraspol to start to discuss the implementation of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (DCFTA) with the EU, IPN reports.
One of the authors of the draft decision for adopting the statement, Deputy Speaker Liliana Palihovici said the signing of the Association Agreement and the creation of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area between Moldova and the EU represent a major accomplishment in building a modern, democratic and prosperous state.
The statement says the Moldovan authorities will continue to make effort to ensure equal access for the residents and business community from both sides of the Nistru River to the new opportunities opened up by the Association Agreement. It reiterates the necessity of Chisinau and Tiraspol continuing the dialogue for identifying the optimal parameters and methods for implementing the provisions concerning the creation of the DCFTA in Transnistria. The jointly identified solutions will take into account the economic interests of the Transnistrian region and the commitments and standards related to the creation of the DCFTA.
The authorities are ready to furnish the dialogue partners from Tiraspol with all the information about the efforts made at executive and legislative levels to prepare for the implementation of the DCFTA Agreement. Within the dialogue, they will agree how to use the expertise provided by the European partners and the EU’s assistance, by obeying the relevant rules and meeting the standards.
The Moldovan authorities call on Tiraspol to adopt a pragmatic and non-politicized approach to this process. Liliana Palihovici said the companies from Transnistria must maintain access to the economic markets. Therefore, the EU’s decision to extend the application of the Autonomous Trade Preferences for Transnistrian economic entities by the end of 2015 offers the time needed for identifying solutions
The Communist MPs didn’t vote for this statement, arguing that it has no legal effect.
