SA Apa-Canal Chisinau will soon start to collect the mud gathered in geotubes at the Chisinau Wastewater Treatment Station during a year. The works will last from December until next February. They will be performed during the cold season of the year so as to avoid the spread of unpleasant smell, IPN reports.

In a communiqué, the Chisinau public utility says the mud will be taken to special storehouses built on the territory of the Wastewater Treatment Station. The workers will collect about 90,000 cubic meters of mud. In the immediate period, there will be cleaned the access ways to the storehouses.

The Wastewater Treatment Station started to work over 50 years ago and the equipment is already old. The administration of SA Apa-Canal Chisinau identified the financial resources needed for modernizing the station. It will take out a loan from the EBRD. The cost of the project is €62.8 million. The largest part of the investments will be made at the first stage, to rehabilitate the Wastewater Treatment Station and about 15 km of sewer pipes.

There will be constructed new mud treatment installations that will enable to obtain biogas for producing electric power and heat, while the cleaned mud can be used in agriculture. The project will be implemented in several stages.
