The public association “Moldova Mea” asks including representatives of civil society in the composition of the parliamentary commission of inquiry into the thefts committed at Banca de Economii (BEM). The association’s head Fiodor Ghelici proposed Sofia Sugac and Mihail Garbuz and former head of the Parliament’s commission on economy, budget and finance, ex-MP Veaceslav Ionita.
In a news conference at IPN on March 26, Fiodor Ghelici said that society is lied about the thefts at the BEM. The people are presented things as it is suitable for the authorities and these believe them and the November 30 vote showed this because the illegalities committed at the BEM became known first in 2012. Neither then nor now did the law enforcement bodies and the authorities take measures to prevent the wrongdoings in the banking system.
Fiodor Ghelici noted that even if a commission of inquiry was constituted, all its findings were secret, while the persons dismissed by Parliament after examining the commission’s report were only scapegoats. “We discussed the issue inside the association and agreed that without the involvement of civil society, no objective investigation will be conducted,” he stated.
The chairman of the Party “Moldova’s Patriots” Mihail Garbuz, who is a member of the association “Moldova Mea”, said it is evident that when a cash transfer is made through banks, it is easy to determine where the money went and from where. “It’s strange that the traces cannot be found. They cannot determine who stole the money and where the Moldovan people’s money went. We are convinced that if the working parliamentary commission includes civil society members who are not in power and who pursue no goal to hid aspects of this case, the truth will be discovered,” he stated.
The association’s members said the request to include representatives of civil society in the given commission will be submitted to Parliament today.
