The clerics who are protesting in front of the Parliament building want a meeting with Parliament Speaker Marian Lupu and Minister of Information Technology and Communications Pavel Filip (MITC). The protesters demand that the legislative revises a bill regarding the national passport system. Several representatives of the Church had a meeting on Thursday with a group of MPs, who promised them to further the discussions on the bill, reports Info-Prim Neo.
Protopope Anatolie Cibric from “Sfinta Paraschiva” church blames the Ministry for promoting this bill without taking into account that a group of believers refused the identification number (IDNP) and, instead of ID cards, use Form Nr.9 as an ID.
The clerics are unhappy with the decision to introduce these people, i.e. those who refused themselves of the IDNP, into an electronic registry, making Form Nr.9 work on the same principle as the IDNP, which completely defeats the purpose of the Form. “We are upset with the Ministry for using an electronic registry instead of the traditional one. The number of the form will become the person’s ID number”, revolted the Metropolitan Church’s jurist Elena Bitca.
MP Alexandru Stoianoglo, who is also President of the Committee on National Security, Defense and Public Order, said that the bill’s discussion would probably continue within the Alliance.
Previously, a communiqué from the MITC mentioned that the provisional modifications do not affect the conditions for issuing IDs and registering citizens who, from religious reasons, do not want an ID with a State identity code. According to the data, there are 5123 individuals, in Moldova, who applied for Form nr.9 or have a Soviet-type passport.
