Co-rapporteur of PACE Monitoring Committee on visit to Chisinau

The co-rapporteurs of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Valentina Leskaj and Ögmundur Jonásson are paying a fact-finding visit to Moldova on February 22-23. The goal of the visit is to collect evidence about the recent political developments in Moldova and to examine the detention conditions of ex-Premier Vlad Filat and former MP Grigore Petrenko, IPN reports.

According to the Parliament’s press service, on February 22 the PACE co-rapporteurs will have discussions with Vlad Filat and Grigore Petrenko and their lawyers and with the chief of the Chisinau-based Penitentiary No. 13 Igor Juvala. The agenda of the visit also includes meetings with Head of Parliament Andrian Candu, Deputy Speaker Liliana Palihovich, who is the head of the Moldovan Parliament’s Delegation to PACE, and with the leaders of parliamentary parties.

The program of the visit includes discussions with Prosecutor General Corneliu Gurin, director of the National Anticorruption Center Viorel Chetraru, Minister of Justice Vladimir Cebotari, Minister of the Interior Alexandru Jizdan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Daniela Cujba, and Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Gheorghe Balan.

The PACE co-rapporteurs will also have meetings with representatives of the diplomatic corps, civil society and extraparliamentary parties and of the Congress of Local Authorities of Moldova.
