More and more homeless people seek temporary refuge, a bed and a snack at Chisinau's Shelter for People without a permanent home on Haltei Street as cold weather sets in.
The Shelter's director Rostislav Chelmenciuc has told IPN that the staff often has to improvise when the 70-bed capacity is not enough. The shelter's beneficiaries are adults of all ages, both men and women.
Rostislav Chelmenciuc says that, in addition to a bed, the shelter offers two meals a day, donated clothes and other items provided by various organizations.
An adverse weather alert has been issued warning of heavy snowfall, followed by extreme cold temperatures, with lows predicted to drop down to -24 degrees Celsius midweek.
