The construction of the 400 kV Balti-Suceava overhead power line (LEA), the modernization of the 330 kV Balti electrical substation, and the construction of a new 400 kV electrical substation have been declared works of public utility of national interest. The government has positively endorsed the draft law stipulating this, IPN reports.
According to the Ministry of Energy, declaring the project a public utility of national interest will expedite the necessary administrative processes for construction works. These include issuing permits, conducting special land expropriation procedures, and withdrawing affected land from agricultural or forestry use.
Additionally, the law outlines the compensation payment process for expropriations. Property owners will be informed in advance about the process and will have the right to provide their consent to receive fair compensation.
Currently, the project is in the stage of preparing the tender documentation for the construction of the power line, the modernization of the existing Balti substation, and the construction of a new substation.
On Moldovan territory, the Balti-Suceava power line will span 58 kilometers. An important aspect of the project involves investments in the existing electrical infrastructure. Approximately 200 electrical substations will be upgraded, and 10 high-power 110 kV transformers will be replaced, enhancing the reliability and efficiency of the national energy system.
The Balti-Suceava line is one of three planned 400 kV power lines designed to strengthen Moldova’s interconnection with the European continental energy system (ENTSO-E). These include the Vulcanesti-Chisinau power line, set for completion in 2025, the Balti-Suceava line, expected to be finished in 2027, and the Straseni-Gutinas power line, planned for completion by 2030.
