President Nicolae Timofti, Premier Vlad Filat, and Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta have congratulated the military on the National Army Day, which this year marks its 21st anniversary, Info-Prim Neo reports. Nicolae Timofti has stated that the National Army, which was created only a few days after the proclamation of Independence of Moldova, was and continues to be one of the state’s pillars – an important institution among those which provide national security. “Today, respectfully gazing into the past, let’s bring an honest homage to all of the known and unknown heroes of our people who have given you, officers and soldiers of today’s National Army, paragons of bravery”, said Timofti in his congratulatory message. Prime Minister Vlad Filat has noted in his message addressing the army that the army represents an important segment of society, entrusted with guaranteeing constitutional democracy. “Today, the National Army is facing an ample reform. We tend towards a modern, professional army, capable of accomplishing its constitutional missions. In attaining these goals, the Government counts on the qualities of the Moldovan soldiers, who have demonstrated over the years that they are worthy citizens, and last but not least, that they are professional servicemen and true patriots”, stressed Filat. Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta has stated that the National Army’s Day represents a moment of value and a symbol for Moldova. “We proudly observe that in all these years, the army, through tangible actions has earned its right to be called the “National Army”, an army that can be relied upon by every citizen of Moldova. In these moments of celebration when the nation honors its army, I would like to extend honest congratulations to the entire military and civilian staff, the reserves, and to all the war veterans. I wish you good health, personal and professional accomplishments as well as much happiness alongside your loved ones”, said Vitalie Marinuta. The National Army was founded on 3 September 1991, a week after Moldova proclaimed its independence.
