Courts of Appeals reorganized into Center, South and North Courts

The Courts of Appeals have been reorganized and reconfigured by being renamed According to the new provisions that recently entered into force, the Chisinau Court of Appeals became the Center Court of Appeals, and the Balti Court of Appeals became the North Court of Appeals. The Cahul Court of Appeals and the Comrat Court of Appeals were reorganized into a single entity – the South Court of Appeals, with its headquarters in Cahul and its secondary headquarters in Comrat, IPN reports.

According to the Agency for the Administration of Courts, the Center Court of Appeals in its district will include the courts of Chisinau, Strășeni, Hâncești, Criuleni, and Căușeni. The North Court of Appeal will comprise the courts of Balti, Edineț, Orhei, Drochia, Soroca and Ungheni. The constituency of the South Court of Appeals will include the courts of Cahul, Comrat and Cimișlia.

In addition to the reorganization of the courts of appeals, the secondary headquarters of the courts were also changed. Thus, the Glodeni branch of the Drochia Court was transferred to the Balti Court, and the Leova branch of the Cimișlia Court was transferred to the Hâncești Court. The Dondușeni branch of the Edineț Court was moved to the Drochia Court.

The Anenii Noi Court, together with its secondary headquarters in Bender (Varnița), was merged with the Căușeni, Court, which now includes the following secondary offices: Ștefan Vodă, Anenii Noi and Bender (Varnița).

The authorities noted that the main purpose of these amendments is to streamline the work of the courts and to improve the access of litigants to fair and fast legal services.

The law on the revision of the judicial map and the reorganization of the courts of law in the Republic of Moldova was adopted in June 2024. The new provisions entered into force at the end of December.
