Seven persons holding responsible positions at the Bender Documents Issuing Section that is based in Varnita are investigated in a criminal case opened over abuse of power. Twenty prosecution officers performed searches at the offices and places of these persons on November 20.
Prosecutor Viorel Morari, of the Interior Ministry, told a news conference that the searches were carried out following complaints and calls from people living on the left bank of the Nistru River. The people were obliged to present an additional set of documents when applying for Moldovan nationality. Taxes were illegally levied for granting nationality.
The head of the Prosecution Division of the National Anticorruption Center Bogdan Zumbreanu said that a number of documents presented by applicants for Moldovan nationally additionally were found at the seven persons’ homes and in their offices. The seven weren’t yet classed as suspects officially and weren’t arrested.
