Minister of Culture Boris Focsa called upon the employees of “Eugen Ionesco” Theater not to become involved in the institution’s administrative matters. “I urge my colleagues to stop this farce,” the minister said, referring to the protest announced by the theater’s staff in connection with the delay in naming the new director of the institution, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“I don’t think that this theater’s troupe should have been involved in administrative matters. The employees should know all these things, but should focus on their work,” the minister said in a news conference.
Boris Focsa said that the Ministry of Culture has always tried to provide support to this institution, and the conflict situation presented by the theater’s administration was created artificially. The first contest to designate the director was invalidated because of the identified irregularities. Nobody applied to the contest held repeatedly. A new contest will be organized in the near future. “No staff can force a state institution to break the law. I think the theater should concentrate on more important matters,” stated the minister.
He also said that the theater has an acting director and continues work. If the employees do not agree with the Ministry’s decisions, they can go to court.
The Theater “Eugene Ionesco” announced that all the actors who will be involved in the theater’s plays will wear white ribbons around arms from January 4 in protest at the delay in appointing the institution’s director.
