The development of cultural and creative industries is an absolute necessity at a time when these are undergoing considerable change as a result of increased digital technologies. The EU promotes the cultural sectors as promoters of employment and development in accordance with Europe 2020 strategy for growth and jobs. For the propose, a two-day seminar centering on the potential of the cultural and creative sectors of the EaP countries and the challenges on the way to their development is staged in Chisinau, IPN reports.

Within the seminar, cultural operators, creative entrepreneurs and decision makers from a number of EU states and EaP countries will stage debates centering on the methods of supporting the cultural and creative sectors from the region. The participants will discuss the potential and challenges faced by the creative industries of the Eastern Partnership countries within roundtable meetings and working groups.

The event enables all the participants to exchange successful practices and present specific support schemes and policies on which the inter-sector cooperation between the public authorities, civil society operators and entrepreneurs is based.

Culture and creativity are the integral components of the Eastern Partnership. Since 2009, the EU has maintained a constant political dialog on culture with its Eastern partners, within the EaP’s Platform 4 “Contacts between People”.

The EU’s €1.5 billion funding program Creative Europe aims to help the cultural and creative sectors to fully exploit the opportunities created by globalization and the digital shift. Moldova and Georgia already joined it.
