The head of the Chisinau-based Hospital No. 4 Nina Doni calls upon the people and economic entities to contribute money to restore the institution and to set up palliative medical care wards, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Nina Doni was named director of the hospital last October. She said that when she went to work, the former head of the institution informed her that the hospital was close to being liquidated as it was in a very bad state of repair. In a news conference on June 16, Nina Doni said that the hospital has not been repaired for six years and thus the walls crumble and the roof is broken.
“Regretfully, a number of wards were lately closed. In 2010, there were closed the last surgical and gynecological divisions. There remained only 70 therapeutic beds. The hospital is to be accredited and it must be repaired,” said the director.
Nina Doni also said that after 2004, up to 80% of the patients receiving treatment in the therapy sections have been elderly persons who are in a difficult financial situation.
In a meeting of the hospital’s personnel, it was suggested transforming the hospital into an institution providing palliative services and medical, psychological and social assistance mainly for elderly persons.
“We want to make everything possible to save the hospital, but the available financial resources are derisory. We call on all the companies to help us so that this category of patients is treated in our hospital and the institution continues work. It is now a vital necessity,” said Nina Doni.
The Chisinau-based Hospital No. 4 was founded in 1816. It has 120 employees.
