200,000 flu shots for the 2017-2018 cold season will be donated to Moldova by the U.S. Center for Vaccine Equity. The donation is made based on an agreement signed by the Ministry of Health and the donating institution. The shots are to be delivered by October 15. The vaccines are sufficient for the immunization of the persons from risk groups the next cold season, IPN reports.
The preparations will be distributed to primary medical institutions that will organize the immunization of persons from risk groups such as people with chronic diseases, medical personnel, pregnant women, children from orphanages, elderly people from old people’s homes and employees of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service. Other categories of people could also benefit from shots on the recommendation of family doctors.
According to the Ministry of Health, the Center for Vaccine Equity in 2015 and 2016 donated 150,000 and, respectively, 200,000 flu shots to Moldova and the persons immunized in the period didn’t experience side effects. The vaccines provided to Moldova were accredited by the World Health Organization.
In the 2016-2017 cold season, 1,130 persons got flu, 628 of whom were children younger than 14.
