Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca was awarded the Order of the Crown of Romania, the Knight class. The order was conferred on him by Princess Margareta, in the name of King Mihai (Michael) I of Romania, in a ceremony held at the Peles Palace on September 10, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from the Chisinau City Hall, Dorin Chirtoaca considers this award as a very important achievement in his life and work. “I feel honored to receive such a distinction, but it puts an obligation on me. It makes your realize that certain things you did were seen. On the other hand, it makes it clear that things should be done till the end so that Moldova returns to the European family,” said Dorin Chirtoaca.

The Order of the Crown of Romania was instituted by King Carol I by a Royal Decree of May 10, 1881, on the occasion of the proclamation of the Kingdom of Romania, in gratitude for services to the state. The order has five classes: Grand Cross; Grand Officer; Commander; Officer, and Knight. Dorin Chirtoaca is the first Moldovan honored by King Mihai I of Romania.
