Three drivers who washed their vehicles on the banks of the Byk River were fined 400 to 800 lei during an hour. The fines were imposed within a surprise inspection carried out by the National Environmental Center, the State Ecological Inspectorate and the General Police Inspectorate, based on a cooperation agreement, IPN reports.
Iuliana Cantaragiu, project expert at the National Environmental Center, said the agreement signed by the three institutions aims to prevent and combat environment-related offenses. “The idea of signing an accord derived from the fact that the environment legislation is violated, including by washing cars on the banks of the Byk,” she stated.
This January, representatives of the National Environmental Center discussed the possibility of cooperating in preventing the pollution of the Byk with the Ministry of the Interior. Thus, a cooperation agreement valid all over the country was signed in Chisinau on April 24. The first raids based on this accord were made in Chisinau, where there were imposed the first fines.
“The involvement of the General Police Inspectorate is very important as employees of the State Ecological Inspectorate are often ill-treated during inspections and they cannot collect the data of persons who break the law. Some of them do not have the identification papers on them or do not what to show them,” said Iuliana Cantaragiu.
The periodicity of the raids will be set by the three parties by consent.
