Drugs worth 1 million lei taken out of circulation

Drugs worth an estimated one million lei, which were intended to reach consumers in Chisinau municipality and the districts of Straseni and Orhei, have been taken out of circulation, IPN reports with reference to the General Inspectorate of Police.

Law enforcement officers had been pursuing a 29-year-old man from the capital, who worked as a courier warehouseman, for a month. The man was caught in flagrante delicto at the end of October, at the very moment of placing the drugs in the capital's stash houses. In the course of the action, police officers established that the suspect was smuggling drugs in wholesale quantities, after which they were picked up by couriers and divided into one gram quantities and placed in stash houses. The drugs were then distributed via Telegram.

Subsequently, two other accomplices acting as couriers were detained in the Straseni district. They are two men aged 27 and 28 respectively.

Searches at their homes revealed and seized mobile phones used in the commission of the crime, zip-lock packages for packaging the drugs, adhesive tape of different colors, high-precision electronic scales, 1 kg of marijuana, 400 grams of cocaine, as well as amphetamine, mephedrone and hashish.

The perpetrators were issued 30-day arrest warrants. Under current legislation, they face imprisonment from 7 to 15 years.
