The election campaign preceding the governor elections in Gagauzia started on May 1. The set of documents for registering initiative groups that will collect signatures in support of candidates can be now submitted, IPN reports.
According to the Central Election Commission of Gagauzia, the first aspirants for the post of governor (Bashkan), among whom incumbent governor Irina Vlah and independent candidate Vasilie Aladov, filed the required documents on May 1. Mihail Vlah presented the documents for having his initiative group registered.
The candidates can submit documents to the electoral body until May 25.
The governor elections were to take place on May 19, but the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia transferred them to June 30 by a decision. In the elections of 2015, Irina Vlah was chosen Bashkan of Gagauzia by the first round by 51.01% of the vote.
