Household appliances will only be allowed for import if they meet ecological design requirements. These will apply to 21 types of equipment, such as light sources, refrigerators, heating devices, boilers, computers, servers, etc. The new technical standards for household products were approved by the government on wednesday, IPN reports.
The Ministry of Energy specifies that the introduced requirements focus on optimizing energy consumption, increasing product durability, and providing clear information to consumers so they can choose energy-efficient and environmentally friendly equipment.
The main goal of this project is to help reduce energy consumption in the household sector, which accounts for a significant portion of the total energy consumption in the country. By implementing these standards, the aim is to achieve an annual energy saving of about 0.8% per year until 2030. Additionally, the regulations will contribute to significant energy savings and will support citizens in reducing energy consumption costs in households.
The State Inspectorate for Non-Food Product Supervision and Consumer Protection will monitor the compliance of regulated products to ensure that all products on the market meet the new ecological and energy efficiency requirements.
The project was developed with the support of the European Union, through the program "Addressing the Impact of the Energy Crisis in the Republic of Moldova", implemented by UNDP.
