The International Day for Tolerance is marked today, November 16, in the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.
People with disabilities, former prisoners, LGBT+ people and Roma citizens are the categories of people who are most exposed to discrimination, said Carolina Bagrin, a member of the Equality Council.
"For these categories, a fairly great social distance is maintained. And this starts from intolerance, from the fact that we don't understand the diversity of these people, that we don't try to be empathetic and we judge them every time," stated Bagrin.
On the occasion of the International Day for Tolerance, the Equality Council of Moldova annually conducts information campaigns to gradually change perceptions of equality and vulnerable groups.
For its part, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection encourages economic agents to create conditions for employment and acceptance of people with disabilities. It also created support programs to integrate former prisoners into the labor market.
The Ministry of Education noted that it worked out a number of strategies for the inclusion of citizens of Roma origin into schools, and this year it also offers scholarships for this category.
The International Day for Tolerance is marked every year on November 16 with the aim of urging humanity to show understanding, mutual respect and of gradually changing the public perception of vulnerable groups.
