A series of educational activities will be staged all over Moldova during the next two weeks as part of the European Heritage Days that are designed to transmit new knowledge to the young generation and to create ties with the own community and cultural identity, IPN reports.

In a press release, the Ministry of Culture says the events that will be held between September 27 and October 13 will focus on historical monuments, archeological sites, art collections, traditional handicrafts and others and will enable the European citizens to learn about the common cultural heritage. Thus, the specialists and people are encouraged to become actively involved in safeguarding the cultural heritage.

In 2015, it was decided to celebrate the European Heritage Days under a common theme. In 2016 this will be “Cultural heritage and communities”.

In Chisinau, the European Heritage Days will be inaugurated in the square of the monument to Ruler Stephan the Great and Holy on September 27. The event starts with a photo exhibition entitled “Doors of Chisinau: gate to the future” by Anetta Dabija. It is mounted under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture.

The same day, the National Museum of Arts of Moldova will open an exhibition titled “Cultural heritage in the children’s view”. It will be housed by the Children’s Creation Workshop and will include a virtual tour through the museums of the world and dialogues about the national and international heritage.

On September 28, the Agency for Monument Inspection and Restoration will launch the pilot-project “Conservation, protection and development of the cultural heritage of the Republic of Moldova”. There will also be launched the project to restore the Assumption of the Mary Church in Causeni. The project is supported by the U.S. Embassy in Moldova and the Ministry of Culture.

Events dedicated to the European Heritage Days are staged in about 50 countries and are annually visited by over 20 million. During several days, access to different monuments and sites will be free.
