The Education Code’s provision stipulating that the work contracts with all the education institution managers who were selected at a contest and held the post for five years takes effect on March 23. Thus, the managers of about 1,200 national education institutions will have to pass an exam if they want to keep the post, Minister of Education Maia Sandu announced in a news conference, IPN reports.
The minister said there will held 30 employment contests for vocational schools, two contests for colleges, about 100 contests for lyceums and over 1,000 contests for secondary schools, primary schools and nurseries. “To improve a system, real professionals must be involved in it. Therefore, we make a call to all those who want to take part in the contests. We want persons with integrity and good managerial skills in each education institution and we count on the increased interest in these posts,” said Maia Sandu.
Asked what will happen to the managers who will not pass the exam, the minister said these can work as teachers at the education institutions.
In Moldova there are 1,323 primary and secondary schools and lyceums, 1,440 nursery schools, 61 secondary vocational schools and 45 colleges. The work contracts of about 40% of the education institution managers expire on March 23.
